Why should I keep my filters clean?
A dirty filter raises static pressure, uses more electricity, reduces air flow,
causes a unit to be cut off and causes condensation leaks. You should change
your filter every other month (or up to 6 months for specialized systems).
What can I do around the house to lower my utility bill?
Keep your blinds and drapes closed to block out sunlight and reduce heat
transfer. Close vents and doors of unused rooms. Also you can run exhaust
fans in bathrooms when showering and for up to 30 minutes after turning off
the water to remove excess humidity. Remove air blocks around your
condenser outside, like tall grass or shrubs. We recommend that you follow
the manufacturer’s guidelines for clearance.
Why should I use programmable thermostats?
Thermostats with a programming feature set back the temperatures when you’
re away from home, thus lowering your energy usage. Regardless of what kind
of thermostat you use, you may also raise the thermostat setting and run
ceiling fans in the summer. You can save more by turning off the fans when
you leave the room, since ceiling fans only make your skin feel several degrees
cooler when they blow directly on you.
How often do I need to get a service call?
Have your HVAC system serviced by a reputable service company two times a
year because working parts need maintenance just like an automobile.
Is there anything you can help me with to make me feel cooler?
At Lost Pines Air LLC, there are many options that we can help you with. We
can analyze your home to match you with the best sized system for your living
conditions, including budget-conscious and green options. We can perform
an audit on your home to find air and duct leakage. We can seal leaky
windows to stop drafts and loss of conditioned air. We also can add insulation
to prevent leaks and heat transfer.
What if I want even more cost savings on my utilities?
We could install a dehumidifier or humidistat for help during the Central Texas
summers to reduce the humidity, because higher humidity makes you feel
even warmer.
What is the best thing I can do to help my HVAC professional?
Take a walk through your home and pay attention to temperature differences
at different times of the day and throughout the year, then share your
findings with your professional HVAC service.
